During a catch up conversation with a close friend yesterday, the subject of seeing the latest installment of the “Star Wars” saga came up and he was shocked to find out I had only seen it the day before our conversation, nearly a full month after its release.  Shocking because he’s known me for most of my life and knows what a “Star Wars” fan I am.

Even though this is true, other priorities and distractions prevented me from seeing it when it opened. But “The Last Jedi” is still the same film, regardless of when I saw it.  The hard part was staying away from all the noise that could have tainted my perception of it. Incredibly, I was able to avoid all the social media rants, reviews, magazine covers and commentary about it.  My viewing experience was pure.

We all go through a similar situation during the last week of every year.  We start thinking about what we’re going to improve in our lives and business and then get inundated with lists, advice and training/products that will get us on track to reach our goals starting January 1st.

Here we are, halfway through January, traditionally when most people drop their resolutions and not give it another thought until the cycle begins again in eleven months.  This is why I believe now is better time to reflect.  The page has turned, the “New Year’s” hype has died as well as the noise. I’m sure there’s some great resources to help you form your goals for the year, but choose few and choose wisely.  Give your valuable time to the ones that speak to you and do not accept every free resource offered. Otherwise, you’ll have a download folder filled with dozens of .pdf’s you’ll never read.  I’ve done that myself many times.

Don’t believe like many, that it’s somehow too late because the year has begun or you didn’t plan or get started.  English author Arnold Bennett wrote, “The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance.  The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you.”

The time to review what you’ve done and how you can improve your situation, whether in your personal life or in business, can happen at any time and should happen often throughout the year.  It’s never too late.

Every day is a new beginning
Let go of yesterday’s regrets
Yesterday’s mistakes
Yesterday’s let downs

Let today… be the day… You move forward
